Is it better to do a car audio system piece by piece, or all at once?

I want to upgrade my car's current audio system from top to bottom, including a new headunit, amp, speakers, subs the whole shebang. I only want to use high quality products, and I will get it professionally installed since I don't know jack about electrical things.

Well, I'm guessing this won't come cheap, so I can't go right now and buy it all, so my question is would it be better to buy a few things now, a few after that, a few things after that, etc, or to save it all in the bank until I have enough to buy it all at once?

You could do it piece by piece start with a head unit. You might not even want to change your door speakers. Because your stock radio dosnt have the best quality so when you turn your stock radio up it distorts the speakers. the aftermarket one will have better quality at higher volumes so you wont here the crackle. I would suggest alpine as the brand to go by and when you buy everything else keep it the same brand as your head unit, because alpine dosnt test there equipment with pioneers equipment they test it with alpine equipment for the best quality. So keep all components the same brand. I like alpine a lot its great quality for the price.

the best thing you can do is buy your stereo/head unit and make sure it has all the plug ins needed for running external amps and whatever else you plan on running ipod phone ext.this is the (brain) of your whole system.then you start building from there.most important stick with name brand equipment you get what you pay for.look for a head unit that also has 4 volt pre outs so your external amplifiers will get a strong speaker signal from your head unit.good luck.these things do not happen in a day.putting a plan together is a good idea.and there are many how to videos on car audio on www.youtube.com/car audio.a video is worth a thousand words.
