Is it illegal if i take an instrumental off the internet, add vocals and put

it on myspace? Like if i added my own vocals to an instrumental and put it online, would that be illegal/copyrighted? even if i acknowledge the original artist.
cover songs are what i am talking about, only i cant play an instrument, that's why i was thinking of using other peoples instrumentals for the songs i liked.

It MIGHT BE.... but also, it could be considered a cover song, which lot's of bands and singers put on their pages.

If it is performed, then yes, it is illegal, although it is unlikely anyone is going to bother you about it. Any performance of a song, instrumental or vocal, is subject to copyright.

You are unlikely to get bothered for two reasons: If you give credit to the performers who did the instrumentals, that helps their careers, and with an instrumental, there are usually multiple performers, so no one person really has the full rights to the copyright on the song.
