..."The Lovely Bones"? Just look at Mr. & Mrs. Singh. Dysfunctional. Ruana was thinking of divorce.

Jack and Abigail Salmon. Dysfunctional. Abigail left Jack and cheated on him with Len.

Len and Abigail. Nothing ever came of it.

Now compare those to Sam Heckler and Lindsey. They had a stable relationship. They got married. Ray and Susie. They were always in love with each other--even after Susie died. Then Ray and Ruth. Is it just me or are the younger ones more capable of better relationships that the adults? Why do you think that is?
 
Sometimes adults are truly like children, and children like adults. Pride and prejudice is also present in adults, not found in children. Racism found on adults, not on children. The truth is that sometimes adults can learn from children and how they socialize. I believe that's what Alice Sebold wanted to transmit (maybe not). My first novel was The Lovely Bones and I absolutely loved it. I don't believe that people go to heaven (in the Bible we read that they are in a disfunctional state in where there is no thought or plan), but I loved the story and how it went on.
I wish adults would be like children... sometimes.
