Is it just me or was the "Kenny Rogers incident" ignored like it didn't happen?

Is it just me or was the "Kenny Rogers incident" ignored like it didn't happen?

In Game 2 of the 2006 World Series, Detroit Tigers starter Kenny Rogers had this thing on his hand that looked like pine tar, but wasn't verified. Ironically enough, it was the only game the Tigers won in that series.

Did the media just blow it off? Curious as to why?
 
Oh, it wasn't dirt. That was the piniest pine tar I have ever witnessed in my life. And yeah, it was ignored.
 
Not just in the World Series -- it was on his uniform in the divisional playoffs with the Yankees. Kenny Rogers, the same guy who couldn't win a post-season game to save his life, was suddenly pitching like Sandy Koufax. Soon after...all's forgotten. I guess if your name isn't Clemens, no one wants to jump to conclusions about illegal things you might be doing to give yourself an edge late in your pitching career.
 
The media didn't blow it off. It was all the media talked about during that time.

However, it was never proven to be anything but dirt, and there are bigger stories, such as WHO WON THE SERIES.

It is a sliver of histroy, and gets credit as such. IT makes no difference. If Detroit had won with Kenny winning game 7 with more stuff on his hand, it would be a story.

Since Detroit got clobbered, it really makes no difference. As to controversies, this little thing called steroids is a bit more significant these days.
 
It probably was let go because he was told to wash his hand after the first inning so that the substance in question was gone. He went on to pitch seven more shutout innings. If he would have had it for more than one inning, I am sure there would be much more of an issue or if he struggled after washing his hand which he did not.
 
Noop, I will remember Kenny cheated and his whole career numbers are in question.
 
The media said it was mud. That wasn't the only game he had that either. Both times he pitched against the Yankees it was there. When he went to pitch a second time the umps made him clean it off. He cheated, and everyone knows it.. But I think baseball has been hit so hard over all the sports (thought they aren't the only ones) they were trying to save everyone the headache
