hard disk? Is it legal to copy a movie from a VCD/DVD you've rented & save/store it on your hard disk? Or to burn it on some other CD/DVD? The reason behind doing so is just that you liked the movie & wanna save it for rewatching it in future, not to use it to upload the stuff online (whatever that piracy stuff is).

Hope you get what I intend to ask. If you answer, please let me know whether you *know* it for sure or are just sharing your *opinion* on this matter. Thanks.

its illegal. Its like renting a video game and somehow make a copy of the disk and keeping it (paying a fraction of the original price to get the game)
 
The terms of your agreement with your rental company will probably have written in it that you cannot. The movie studios allow (legally) you to rent a movie and watch it as often as you want/can during the period it is rented, regardless if it is only for your eyes or not.
