Is it no wonder Christians are so unlike their Christ?

(answer from a christian)

"Being a Christian has nothing to do with how good or bad of a person you have been while on earth. The ONLY thing you have to do is accept the gift of Salvation. We as humans are born with a sin nature and the only atonement for that is Christ spilling his blood and dying on the cross for us. All you have to do is believe this statement and admit your a sinner that can not do anything on your own to make it to heaven. Pray that God will forgive you since you admit your a sinner, asked to be filled with the holy spirit, and believe Jesus died for your sins on the cross. It is as simple as that. Once you cross that bridge you will want to know more because you will be convicted and led by the holy spirit."
(this is another)

"just Receive His Free Gift of Salvation in Faith and with a sincere/convicted heart and 'you' too will go! geez, why won't you accept His Free Gift all this time? (Romans 10:9-17.) ;)"

That is a Christian Believer, not a Christian Follower.

The two are not the same.

Easy for you to say the only standard you have to live up to is your own! That is easy enough to do i have been able to do it without any effort at all, all of my life!

A true Christian would not give you such an erroneous, inaccurate, and unscriptural answer.

EDIT: komputernut knows nothing of God. He blames God for most things that have nothing to do with him. He is misinformed and seeks to misinform others about his very creator. Those things that do have to do with God, he judges without knowing why things were done the way they were. He assumes and presumes a lot. That is called prejudice. He prejudges the Judge of the whole earth. He seems to be an extraordinary pessimistic person.

I'm not a Christian anymore BUT I'm pretty sure there is a well-known passage in the bible that basically states "you can't get into heaven on faith alone; you must also commit good deeds." I don't remember where it is but I know it's in there.

That is a Christian, but you must realize that someone who truly does accept that wants to become a good person.
It all depends on sincerity.

Raise hell until the lights begin to dim then say a little prayer and you're in!

Hard to believe Theists actually question the moral code of Atheists.

Remember to try and turn away from your sins and set a good example to others and help others. Repent!!

God bless :)

It's no wonder to me that blind faith extremists are so unlike Christ. Their beliefs are based in Calvin's teachings not Christ's.

No Catholic would agree with that statement, and Catholics make up the largest percentage of Christians in the world.

You have a daughter, lets say for the sake of argument she is old enough to "know Christ" but hasn't quite figured it out yet, but she is confident she will, and so are you. She goes to church and is a model child, student and citizen.

One day man in his 40's finds YOUR daughter. He is a career criminal who has has served himself his entire life.
He repeatedly brutally rapes and toucher your daughter over a long period of time and eventually he kills her and stuffs her body in a dumpster....

He is caught and put in prison where he sits on death row for 10 years. In that time he TRULY comes to know God and Christ and repents and asks for forgiveness from God and accepts his punishment of death by (whatever).

Here is what your religion says has to happen:

1) Your daughter burns in hell

2) The rapist goes to heaven

WAKE UP!! This is not a just God. God kills 70,000 innocent people because David ordered a census of the people (1 Chronicles 21). God also orders the destruction of 60 cities so that the Israelites can live there. He orders the killing of all the men, women, and children of each city, and the looting of all of value (Deuteronomy 3). He orders another attack and the killing of “all the living creatures of the city: men and women, young, and old, as well as oxen sheep, and asses” (Joshua 6). In Judges 21, He orders the murder of all the people of Jabesh-gilead, except for the virgin girls who were taken to be forcibly raped and married. When they wanted more virgins, God told them to hide alongside the road and when they saw a girl they liked, kidnap her and forcibly rape her and make her your wife! Just about every other page in the Old Testament has God killing somebody! In 2 Kings 10:18-27, God orders the murder of all the worshipers of a different god in their very own church! In total God kills 371,186 people directly and orders another 1,862,265 people murdered.

The contention however is what is taught in the New Testament. No one can be good enough to attain forgiveness. It is available through the substitutionary atonement of Christ and is appropriated by fatih. However, Christians are supposed to live like Jesus. This isn't in order for them to merit salvation but because they have salvation.
