The other day, I had been playing my PS3 for a while and when I cut it off, I leaned over it and I could smell like a weird smell coming off of it, it wasn't strong and you had to get really close to it, I mean right up on it, and it was still kind of hard to smell then, it didn't smell like it was burning or anything, it smelled like the plastic the ps3 is made of could've gotten hot and started to kind of smell, is this normal?

It is normal. I have an Xbox 360, and it had the smell of the console after playing it. Basically, its just the smell of the plastics, if I am not mistaken. I wouldn't worry about it, however if you can smell it from across the room, turn it off, unplug it immediately, and call PS3 support. Also, if the smell is more metallic, and/or smells like ozone, the hard drive could be overheating.

Hope that helps!

that never happen to me, mostly because when i turn it on i open the glass door that protex it from getting dust also my dad cutted out the back and put it 2 sliding doorz so when i turn it on, i slide open the door, these methods help because as the system heats up from gameplay, air is able to flow through which helps to keep it cool. maybe urs started smelling because its on and its sealed up and no air is coming through, u should make a ay for air to be able to pass through. also, try to turn on u ac if where u live is hot, (i live in FL) also all the heat might be clogged up so when u do smell it it smells funky

That's happened to me too. Hopefully it's normal. Any kind of CD/DVD/Blu-Ray player tends to heat up after a while I've noticed so I don't worry.
