Is it okay for judges to use scare tactics to deter young felons?

Sydney Magistrate Brian Maloney gave 19-year-old Cody Heap a stark warning about jail life in an attempt to scare the youth into good behaviour.

"You'll find big, ugly, hairy, strong men (in jail) who've got faces only a mother could love that will pay a lot of attention to you - and your anatomy," the magistrate said.

Yes they should. Something needs to be done world wide about the lack of morals, and the lack of good judgements made by todays youth in the AU and the US. The judge was telling the truth, and the kid probably doesnt believe a word of it.

Well it's the most intimidating thing the Judge can do, the human rights act has left criminals secure in the knowledge they will be given good food, entertainment and great medical treatment simply by breaking the law.

I asked this question yesterday.

I think it's hilarious. Fed up with the namby pampy tap on the wrist criminals get these days with little / no consequences for what they have done.
