Is it okay to target agents who don't live in your state?

I have a finished manuscript and would like to find an agent, however, there are very few choices in the city where I live. Should I bother trying to get an agent who lives outside of my state?

The most effective agents will be those with direct access to the
publishers you wish to target.
Read and understand any agreement you sign.

most agents travel so much it doesn't matter where they live. just find the person who can best represent your work and who will fight as hard as you do for your work. you want the best agent regardless of geographic location.
