is it posible to make your own ringtones?

i just got a new phone today and i can't bluetooth all of my ringtones to my new phone. my question is is it possible to make your own? can you do this with just using windows media player? can you do this with out recording your own ringtone? i use to record some music and use it as a ringtone , but it doesnt sound right and doesnt sound clear

Send yourself a text message and attach it with a ringtone then just save the file... Done it many times.
