Is it possible to break a Directv contract without paying a fee?

I currently live in Atlanta, and am moving to New York City in about a month. I have Directv service and am in a 2-year contract. When I move, I will have 1 year left on my contract. I never intended to break my contract, and when I signed up for the service I had no idea I would be moving.

The apartment I'm moving into in NYC is a historic building and does not allow satellites due to historic preservation. My landlord told me that is the only reason they don't allow satellites, and that I would be welcome to have it if my apartment had a balcony I could set it on w/o attaching it. (But I don't have a balcony.)

Since my apartment has an unquestionable reason for not allowing satellite service, is it possible to negotiate my way out the contract w/o paying an astronomical early termination fee? Certainly there must be a clause for circumstances like mine?

I'm really worried about having to pay to cancel the service because it'll be really expensive. I read that Directv charges $20 per month left on your contact to cancel. I currently pay $34.99/month for the service. Canceling is almost as much as keeping it! I have lots of expenses related to the move and cash is short, so I really can't afford to pay off Directv.

Help!
