Is It Possible To Smoke Cook A Steak If So How Long Should It Be Done For?

yes it is but it could take a few hours just make sure its good and tender before you take it out

Smoking meats takes a long time which in turn results in meats becoming well-done. What I do for my steaks is use liquid smoke because I too like steak medium rare and don't want to cook it too long.

Liquid smoke is inexpensive and goes a long way. It's really concentrated so you don't need much at all. When you use it, you don't need to let it marinade for very long either.

20 minutes before cooking your steak, add a few dashes of liquid smoke to the steak and rub it in all over. You may want to use gloves if you don't want the smell on your hands. When you're getting ready to cook your steak, pat it dry with paper towels and season. Cook it for as long as you like it, depending whether or not you will pan sear or grill your steak. When it's done, let it rest and serve.

FYI...I always get my liquid smoke at Walmart. It's less than a dollar which is way cheaper than places like Safeway and Luckys.
