Is it safe to download ares to my Mac?

So i just got a mac and I'm transferring from a windows and i want to download ares to my mac, only I'm afraid ill get virus and stuff to it. i really love my mac and i don't want anything to happen to it. I'm also concerned since mac doesn't have an antivirus. what to do? and if not, are there apps for me to download for music like ares?

Any Windows virus or malware will not harm a Mac. You will not have a problem. There hasn't been a MacOS X virus since 2006. The few Mac malware items that exist require you to be tricked into downloading and installing them with your admin password.
