Is it safe to treat humans for flea bites with garlic and brewers yeast?

My daughter is allergic to flea bites, but we have cats that have fleas. We have tried treating the cats with a number of different products, both holistic and chemical, but we continue to have problems, especially during the summer. Someone suggested to add garlic and brewers yeast to the cat food. I know it sounds crazy, but would it be safe to put the same ingredients in my daughter's food? Or as long as I'm being crazy, could I give her the garlic and yeast pills that are sold through pet supply companies for "natural" remedies?
