That they are loyal, but if they see a nice person they'll follow them home
I'm thinking about getting this dog, but my mom said that they will follow a person if its very nice.
my mom read about that in a book

If someone leaves a nice dog unattended and free to roam, they obviously dont care for their dog.

I hope the dog would follow a nice person home...

No! They are very friendly but mine would not follow a stranger home at all.

Who told you that??? Do they have a Golden? I bet ya they don't and are just repeating something stupid someone told them.

I have 5 dogs. While they love everyone they meet, they wouldn't go home with anyone but us.

If your dog is on a leash or safe in your fenced yard, that won't happen.

Where would your dog be that it "could" follow someone home?

Well my dog may like someone, but she'll only follow me home. I have never heard of that happening. If they are loyal to you, they'll stay loyal to you.

its just a saying...
doesnt mean a thing!
it all depends on the dog itself ... yes, some breeds tend to be more loyal and friendly
but if you have a dog (and its loyal) it will never leave you...

All dogs have different personalities. Some breeds are have stronger traits than others. There are dogs of any breed who would follow someone and dogs of the same breed who would growl at someone.
Goldens are nice dogs but just being a Golden Retriever doesn't mean they are more likely to have that behavior. There are Chiahuahuas who would follow anyone and Chiahuahuas that would attack anyone.
To answer your question exactly, no, it's not true about Goldens.

If allowed to roam they will def follow someone home but that is true of most dogs that are friendly. A friend used to have a Lab she let roam and it willing went with anyone including the Animal Control officer who picked him up. Fortunately for the Lab he went to a new home who kept him in a secure fence and leashed when outside his fence. I have a Dobe and a Lab and if the gate is open they will stay with me but if I left them outside without being here and the gate open they would drift off to visit people. None of my dogs are outside when I am not home and my gate is padlocked so none of my dogs can get out. MinPins are not good off leash dogs and would def run off it they were left out with the gate open, they are a terrier type breed, love to chase things and get into trouble but not especially friendly to strangers. Most dogs, living in a neighborhood, will roam to find more love, food or stimulation if allowed.

my neighbors golden always wants to go in my house.
but maybe thats because shes never home to take him for a walk and he lives outside.
I will sday this though, they aren't the most loyal/protective dogs around, they might even be too friendly if you know what i mean. when i had a golden mutt, he was very friendly and would want to play with everybody, so i could never let him off the leash, but my dogue de bordeaux knows who is his rightful owner, and stays close by even without a leash, and still is very friendly, but can sense danger.
Somebody stole my purse from behind, and the dogue jumps on him and grabbed a hold of his neck and wouldn't let go of him till the police came, my golden was just running around paying hehe. i still loved him just as much.

all you need to do is train it properly, it requires to be a bit more firm with this breed, but really it all depends on how you treat your dog, you still need to be firm.
