Is modern Judaism descended from the Sadducees or the Pharisees?

I'm curious what were the Sadducees and the Pharasees- were they branches of Judaism 2000 years ago? Is modern Judaism closer to the former or the latter?
I am curious what type of Judaism was practiced by Jesus and his disciples, before the whole Christian schism took place
