I haven't heard anyone say one word about WWE or Boxing since the UFC started to become popular about 6 years ago. Is Boxing and WWE slowly getting pushed off the map?
Boxing, not really. They are competing yes, but its still very popular and still draws more money than MMA by a large margin. Although I think most people that like one, also probably like the other. The haters are just more vocal. As for WWE, was it ever really taken seriously to begin with? I mean, its fake. Its really not even in competition with combat sports, maybe gymnastics....shrug...
In the U.S., maybe. But then the WWE is in a completely different category, since it's an entertainment show, not a competition sport. Boxing on the other hand is still around, it just doesn't get as much exposure on TV like it used to. But compared to MMA, Boxing still brings in more money at the gates and for the fighters. You also have to keep in mind that almost every country in the world has a boxing program, some supported by their governments, while MMA is still a young sport and still has to firmly establish itself as a dominant sport in other countries.
I really think so, Boxing has really fallen from when it was at its peak years long ago and although there are still great fighters such as Floyd Mayweather Jr. it is still going down hill. WWE although is still very big is starting to lose viewers, a lot of the wrestlers now are never going to achieve the type of superstar the Rock, Stone Cold, or Hulk Hogan did. MMA is becoming the fastest growing sport in the world, it was huge for years in country's like Japan and now is becoming huge in the U.S. in the UFC. Although Wrestling is still loved by many it is clear to most now more than ever to be scripted and fake which loses people interest. Boxing is a one dimensional sport compared to MMA, sure some people love watching boxers exchange for 12 rounds but MMA is much more exciting. Any martial art on the planet can be used in MMA and that draws many people and people to try it, in MMA 4 oz gloves are used rather than big boxing gloves so KO's happen more often then boxing. I do not think it will be long before we start seeing MMA on a regular basis on Network Television as companies like Strikeforce are already making appearances twice a year on CBS.
