Is my apartment complex liable for damages if one of their groundskeepers...

...stole my bike? Someone stole my bike a couple of weeks ago and it just so happens that I saw one of the groundkeepers wheeling a bike around the complex today that looks exactly like it. I haven't done anything, yet. I'm sure I'll get the police involved rather than doing anything myself, just in case I'm wrong, but I'm curious as to whether or not my apartment complex shares any liability for this.

They might want proof. Even if THEY know the person is shady and might believe you, it will make them look bad, so they will ask for proof. You could always take someone with you as a second witness. Just tell them casually "im thinking of talking to my lawyer because this is ridiculous". They will compensate in some way guaranteed.
