is my imei on my sony ericsson w910i blocked?

i recently brought a sony ericsson of a mate which was on contract i put my pay and go sim in and it was fine for a few days, afta that it shew up "inactive sim" this indecated too me that it had been imei blacklisted i done an imei check https://prod.eie.net.au/portal/template/MYMIMEIInquiry.vm it said enter the 15 didget imei number i entered the number as shown when 8#06# was keyed then it said the imei must be 15 charecters soo i reserched 17 charecter imei's as appose to 15 and it said just take the last two off as it is jus a code used for the operater too check your firmware for browsing etc so i missed the two didgets enterd the code and it stated it was nor blocked ive tried countless orange sim's which work in other mobiles no luck all i can do is acsess orange world etc what can i do ? is it possible to unlock the phone from orange and use a 3rd party netwotk ie: lycra mobile which i assume dont run the imei check and ive heard rumor that vodafone dont block imei ???????
