Please leave feedback, am I telling too much about the character in the intro
The personification of human frailty and sorrow, Arthur Dimmesdale a young
Puritan minsiter, who is committed to his religion and devoted to his god. Being
a great speaker and such a wise man, Arthur is loved not only among the city of
Boston but throughout the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Dimmesdale has sinned for
being Hester's lover and the father of her child Pearl. For some time bpth Athur
and Heste kept quiet, but behind the public scene Dimmesdale practiced
self-flagellation. This shows the shame that he feels for having sinned. This
also leads to the question whether he put the mark on his own chest or if it was
put there by someone of greater power like Black Man. Over time not being able
to confess his sin, whether it was to due to the mental weakness he possesses or
the congregation not taking his confessions seriously for not being specific
about them. For many years Arthur suffers from depression, contributing to the
decline of his health. Once he recognized the sin has ate away at him for long
enough, he decided to finally confess his sin. Right before his death he
purified his soul by confessing publicly. Also he showed the public the Scarlett
A that was on his chest for years. The Scarlett A most likely means someone who
tries to hide sin but eventually will be exposed and revealed.
