There no defects with my phone but it is physically very damaged(scratches). Can it be covered to get a new phone?

How new are we talking? Before you call to report it to your cell phone provider, make sure that you wait the necessary amount for the waiting period. I know for sure Sprint has a 30 day waiting period before you can make a claim and if you make an insurance claim too quickly they will cancel your insurance and void your coverage. I learned that the hard way when I broke my phone antenna by dropping it after 29 days which was 3 days too soon. SO I was stuck with a broken phone. I dropped Sprint and went with a new company since I was going to have to pay $300 for early cancellation or new phone anyways. Your warranty will be void however, because it covers defects, not damages. If your phone is defective, you cannot prove it wasn't due to damages so they will not cover it. Now the other part to this is the insurance issue- If you are going to make an insurance claim after 30 days, make sure you tell them that your phone is freezing and shutting off or something like that. They will not cover only cosmetic defects. They will never know that your phone isn't really freezing, they never check that out.

technically you have to check your insurance coverage, i have verizon and i've gone through quite a few phones. the insurance won't cover scratches but if you want to just run the phone over with a car, i've done that and gotten a new phone. The only thing about that is you have to send it in to the insurance and they will send you a phone. This takes about a week or two. I did that when i had water damage and when i acciedntally puked on my phone

Yes... as long as you bought extended coverage or its less than 30 days old...

It depends what kinds of insurance or warranty you have.
Some actually state they damages caused by water or misuse are not covered.
