Is our lives already planned out from the day we were born?

I've seen someone committed suicide right in front of my very own eyes, and after that tragedy, I became more aware of deaths, suicide, and accidents. I always hear the quote, "God has better plans for us." whenever negative happenings come. Does that mean that our lives are already planned? Our choices? The way we will die? The people we will meet? Why do some people die in a more tragic way? Why do some die earlier?

I know that I won't have any answers but here I am, wasting my time by still wondering about these things. -_-
