Is putting primer and gloss black paint on snowmobile wear rods / carbides safe to

do? I needed to repaint the bottom of my ski's for my snowmobile. Without giving it much thought i also put primer and spray paint on the wear rod / carbides of my Vintage Arctic Cat Jag snowmobile ski's. Will this effect the performance in the winter time or is this ok. I noticed that they were rusting a bit, and did not give it much thought when I did it.
