You should go!! Umm... I've never heard of there being vineyards and wine stuff, but okay. Haha. No. There are actually a lot of historical places, shops, and all sorts of things. Chinatown. Japantown. Golden Gate Bridge. Amaaazzzzinngggg seafood. And a lot of art. Like SF is a very urban, modern, artsy kind of place so you'll see a lot of talent there as well. You should definitely go. It's... an amazing place and you'll regret it if you don't go.

Is there a lot to do or is it just a lot of vineyards to visit? My wifes' family will be going along and not everyone is a wine conisour. It will cost about 3000 per couple to rent a house, flight, food and enterainment so I am curious if it is worth it or should I just go to a beach?

Be sure to do the following: take a bus tour to Muir Woods - it is amazing to see those giant redwoods and is a peaceful interlude.

Get thee to Yosemite - the earlier in the day the better as it does get crowded. When I went there one October - I had been staying over by Oakland - I left my hotel at 3:00 am and drove there was in by 6:00am walked a short easier trail, got on the first vally floor tour of the day - but the time I left a little after 1:00 it was very crowded.
