im lookin at a 1973 chevy custom with a 350sbc and 3 speed granny gear. Would it be a 4x4?
its a 3/4 ton as well
also i cant c the inside cuz the truck is on craigslist.
It is possible but not real likely. 4x4 was still a relatively new thing back then. Trucks had only been offered in 4x4 for a couple of years at that point. The majority of these older trucks are 2wd. There are many ways you can tell if it is 4x4 or not. Usually the 4x4s have six lugs if they are 1/2 tons. You can look at the front hubs. If they dont look like an ordinary 2wd hub, then it is likely 4wd. You can check the vin number also. They also sit up higher, have the presence of a front axle often viewable just by glancing at the front of the truck from a distance. If it is 4wd, it will also likely have two shifters on the floor instead of just one, unless it is full time 4x4..
If you look inside the truck, if it's a floor shifter, look for a second floor shifter thats a little bit smaller, that would activate the 4x4, if it's a column shifter, again, look for another shifter thats on the floor over top of the transmission tunnel.
