i'm looking at buying an amp and sub(s) for my car, and i was wondering if there was a point to getting two subs, because i dont know if bass is in stereo. what i mean is, are cds written to seperate bass from left to right, like they do with guitar and drums and everything? certain bands switch sounds from the left to the right sometimes for dramatic effect (like ted nugent, switchfoot on 'so much more,' and a lot of pink floyd.), and i wanna know if they do that with bass too.

bass notes are not in what you would call stereo. without a broader frequency range you will not get the stereo effect. that's why most all sub amps are mono. the main reason for two subs is for greater output. the more cone area you have the more air it will push. two subs will alternate back in forth depending on the music being played and the bass tones coming out.the left to right stereo sweep you are referring to comes from the upper frequency range of the source
