Is the Epiphone Les Paul a good intermediate guitar?

I started out with a fender starcaster from what I understand is very bottom line. I have learned with it for going on a year now and i'm ready to move up and I want to know if the Epiphones a great for intermediate players. Any suggestions are welcome.
