Is the IPAD really all that and a bag of chips?....?

Here is the thing,i always wanted A Iphone. But,it cost a lot and you needed the internet to use it.
I don't have a problem with that,i just don't like the idea of paying for something,that i need for a week to get lot the ring-tones and wallpapers i need for it. I'm not a text user and i do my neting at home. Now,we have the IPad. I was going to get a laptop,but maybe it would be better to get that.
Since it more pc then phone,i was hoping it would not have all the crap to it. I just want something to work on and use WHEN,I'm on the go.
If anyone has been hurt about the IPad and does not want to see it happen to someone else..tell me.

You don't need to pay for internet on iPhone, as long as there's wifi around you should be fine. Same goes for the iPad, it really isn't all that great, to me it's just a big iPod Touch. I highly recommend a laptop than the iPad, it can't multitask, and the internet isn't that great either.

But that's just my personal opinion, that depends on the persons preference.

IMO the iPad is crap. you cant even compare it to a computer.
like Jeffery said it is just a really big iPod Touch (not even a phone)

consider getting a NetBook rather than an iPad

you cant run two programs at once(multi tasking like a word processor and a browser)
it doesnt support USB devices,(like cameras, external drives, USB sticks)
it cant read a CD
it has limited software(only stuff apple approves on the app store)
[you have to pay a little for the software that is good]
it has a screen keyboard that takes up half the screen
for the price the hardware sux. compared to what else you can get

but it is shiny and you can show it off to you friends
