I'm doing a persuasive essay in english and I want people's opinions on this subject. My teacher said it was ok if i asked people for a survey, so its not cheating. I would also like it if you could provide support for your answer please. Thanks!

The Universe is orderly not random. The Mayans were able to through their extensive work with time figure out that the earth runs in cycles lasting 26000 years. http://www.scribd.com/doc/2062555/Mayan-Prophecies-and-Calendar The earth goes though each of the zodiac phases that last about 2152 years. We are on the last phase. We have been going through these changes for many years but as the time get nearer it will become more apparent. 2012 is the completion of this cycle. A new cycle of the new age will begin.http://www.13moon.com/prophecy%20page.htm Good for you combining this with your English homework.

I have heard that the Mayans never prophesied anything about the world ending in 2012. Their calendar simply ends on that year because they never finished it, probably because they all died out before finishing it. I believe the history channel will be running a show on this very subject soon, it might be worth watching.

* HOW come no one has ever really heard bout the mayan since just now ? all this talk bout ''Doomsday'' is a mouth full of tr@sh ... the only reason the calander stops there as a war came they were attacked for believeing in a different religion and they were all killed it was on a history channel program *

I dont think the earth will stop spinning on December 21, 2012.
Every 26,000 years the Earth's north and south poles shift because of our alignment in the exact centre of our galaxy this event could cause tremendous natural disasters but I'm sure life will continue. The ancient Maya priesthood calculated threw astrology and superstition that this date would mark the end of human consciousness as we know it, not the end of the world. By the way, whats amazing is thier scripture also predicted that the War God Quetzacoatl would have pale skin and a black beard--unknown in that part of the world-- and would return on April, 22nd, 1519 and that is the exact day Hernan Cortes landed on the Central American coast. Whats also interesting is the last time this event happened 26 000 years ago our ancestor Cro Magnon man suddenly began creating great art in the caves of southern France, which to this day remains one of the most inexplicable and remarkable changes in human history.
