Is the mini pill as effect as the combined?

Im taking currently the jolivette mini pill which is pretty much a knockoff of micronor but my doctor uses this instead. Well i want to have sex and i want to know how well this will work. We will use condoms but i want the double protection!! I was thinking of switching to the combined Pill but my mom had estrogen based breast cancer which i could get if im not careful with estrogen.so is the mini pill just as effective? Ive been on it for like 3 month maybe 4
