Is there a switch for Amps in car audio?

Okay, I may sound like a complete idiot but I have been in car audio for about two years now. I am putting another system in another one of my cars and I was wondering ift here is a way I could put a switch hooked up to one of my amps which would essentially turn one off so that if I do not want the watts to go to my subs, they won't.

I would have 2 amps, one will be on all the time and the other could be turned on through this switch. Is it possible to have this work? I have have the bass knob which controls the subs.

I was also wondering that with that bass knob, would it be in my best interest to have two of those? So it'd be one for each amp, and then having the switch for one of the amps?

you might be able to put a switch on 1 of the remote wires.. if your going to use a bass knob then dont keep it turned up to much, you run the risk of blowing something
