Is there a way to buy a phone for verizon without signing up for a contract?

I lost my phone, and kept my old one as a back up. So currently I am using my older phone. However, it is in really bad condition and I was considering buying a phone off of amazon and switching my number over. Is this possible?

You can buy a Verizon phone by any means possible without signing up for a contract. The easiest way is to simply pay the full retail price of the phone, normally around $700. You can also buy them off of Craigslist used, etc.
