Is there a way to extend the time the backlight stays on for the iPhone 4?

I like to play piano and sing, and look up lyrics on my iPhone: it's very convenient! But the backlight turns dim and the phone goes to sleep within a minute or so. Is there a way to make the light stay on longer?
