Is there a way to manually engage the high 4 wheel drive on my 4 door

1996 GMC Jimmy until it's repaired? Push button 4 wheel drive sounds like it's engaging, and actually feels like it somewhat engages at idle. As soon as any amount of gas pedal is increased, it feels like it disengages. I live in snow country and would like to manually engage the 4 wheel drive into high speed. Can anyone tell me how this would be accomplished?
