Is there always an element of Truth behind your joking telling offs?

when I tell someone off, it's real. I don't joke about it because I've been joke told off and I've mistaken it for real and I didn't think I deserved it. It was only a couple of days AFTER I worked myself into a crazy spell that someone told me they were joking. Not fun. I wouldn't do that to someone else. But if they deserve it, I'll give it to them.
