...vent it...? ...sufficiently?
The dude at Best Buy says that an over-the-range microwave just doesn't provide adequate ventilation for a gas cooktop. But if we put that big ol' hood in there instead, we have that much less room in an already tight kitchen. We've also heard that an attic fan will do the job, and you don't even need a hood, just a hole in the ceiling of the kitchen. What should we do?
 
the access to vent, you can buy a kit to vent in a loop. Do not use a "Over the counter" nor a "counter top" model on a bracket or a shelf because the wires inside are not insulated and will cause a problem.
I dont know what the guy in the store is talking about....Over the range microwaves are made for this purpose. I am a landlord in Manhattan and own about 30 of these things. LG is the cheapest, but not the best. Sharp, GE are good quality.

Gas cooktops and microwave ovens don't need to be vented. The only important thing is to make sure the distance between the 2 is proper.
