data plan? I want to switch to verizon, but do not want to pay to have data on my phone. If i bought that phone from lets say ebay, could i then take that in when i set up a contract and not have to pay for the data plan?
thats what i thought but i asked the guy there and he said yes. Have they changed that since u first bought the phone? He pointed out like almost every new stylish phone that had to have the data plan. its 9.99 a month ea phone.
 
If you are talking about the "data plan" as in the Internet. No you do not need it. i had my voyager for 2yrs and never botherd with the data plan its only if you want to use the internet or programs that run the internet i.e. v-cast,ect.
 
Previously you didnt have to have a data plan, my guess is people ran up large bills on the pay as you go data plans and didnt pay. So TPTB at verizon decided to just make it manditory. You can get plenty of nice non smart phones for free with new contact at verizon and not have to have an older Voyager phone.
 
The only phones that require it are the phones currently sold. The Voyager is an old discontinued model so it does not require it
