Is this normal for a newbie to birth control?

My dr. told me to start the pill on the first day of my period and it seemed to stop my period in its tracks. Its been 3 days now. I know this may be a stupid question, but I'm new to the whole birth control deal, so just curious. Its Loestrin 24, and Im 25. Any tips would be great suggested. :)
