Is using an internet accelerator worth it?

I want to make my internet faster. Will an internet accelerator do me any good? If so, please tell me which one I should download (that's free), and is compatible with Windows Vista.

Also, are their any disadvantages of using an internet accelerator?

I am also running Vista home premium i tried 2 accelerators it was not worth the time. Upgraded to dsl extreme and got rid of some of the auto start up programs all so installed 4mb ram. Big difference.

It is somewhat a lie. All it does is change some settings in the computer to process things a little faster. It doesnt speed up your internet. To really get what you want, you will have to pay for a faster internet speed.
