Is XviD safe to download?

I want to watch movies on my Laptop, but for certain places it says to "Download the XviD player". Is it safe to download? I've had viruses before and it was not fun to clean them up. I do have AVG running and it works great, but how safe is XviD?

It depends. If it's REALLY XviD, then it's safe. The problem is that some malicious files will say that they're pointing you to XviD when it's really not XviD. The safest thing to do would be to download VLC Media Player (which can play XviD, DivX, and everything else without needing additional codecs):

wow wow wow it was so bad i had just had a new laptop, and i only downloaded that and i was on facebook the only othere thing i was on on the laptop and it crased blue scrrem
