Israel Blockades Lebanon

Can you think of any volunteer military force that advertises "Sign up with us so you can round 'em up, put em in a field and bomb the *illegitimates*!

Sorry mate, but I can think of plenty.

You can start with WW1, or go pre or post

The British Army is the most effective charity in the world?

lol. You got any source for that?

I think it is common knowledge that the UK, US, and other military forces do a lot of humanitarian assistance from disaster relief to the Army Corps of Engineers building bridges, dams, dikes, etc.

Show it then. And the statement was any volunteer military force that advertises not that has advertised in the past.

If I do not see this thread calm down, I will lock it for a chill out. There is no need to attack people because you disagree with them and to do so makes you look like a blubbering baby. So stop!

The above was what I was commenting to. WW1 recruitment was based on this idiology where "Sign up with us so you can round 'em up, put em in a field and bomb the *illegitimates*!

"em" was the Germans and the "WE NEED YOU" was the call, the white feathers was the alladged cowards who didnt want to fight in a French field for a Monarchy they didnt want to fight for.

A man should have a choice who he fights for, not just forced upon him by simplistic opinions of government.

For me I know what I would die for but the the way government is playing maybe dying in afghanistan is good (or do I mean Sudan (or any other European colony I can think of).

and do you think i care?

Considering the seriousness of this topic!!!

I will NOT have this thread become a place for people to whine because of differences in opinion. This thread is a serious topic, one which, I might add, can go on just fine without your contributions. If you cannot control yourself and stop acting like spoiled brats, you will find yourselves on the end of my editorial powers.

I do not wish to have this thread locked, but I will remove anything I deem disruptive.

Stabilizing democracy? Really? Israel strikes you as a stabilizing country?

And who cares if they are a democracy? So are many countries that we don't like...democracy does not = good.

uh oh... beware the Dolphin.

She is capable of reducing anyone to 'dork' status...

*sniff

Couldn't you just delete the posts from those who are acting like children?

Or delete and warn?

Sure would be a shame to lock a fairly important topic discusing serious issues because a few of the adults forgot they went through puberty.

Just a suggestion, wouldn't want us innocents get punished for the actions of a minority group of troublemakers...sound similar to anyone else?

Sorry, the soiurce was a magazine article where the writer was at an annual charity awards ceremony in London. If I recall correctly the article was written about 10 years ago and the author was Ian Hislop. For any non Brits on the list Hislop is mainly known to the public as a satirist and as the editor of Private Eye, but he is also a serious political journalist.

If you follow the army link posted further to see where the UK Army is around the world you'll get a better picture.

But hey, I'll let you guys get back to the main thread. I only posted because DCombatives' post showed the difference (which I think is a very significant one) between the US and UK (and probably most European) armies and how they view their role. There is a very interesting difference between the role and consequent behaviour of the UK troops leading an offensive against the Taliban in Afghanistan and the UK troops 'peace-keeping' in Iraq. The view of many of the UK soldiers I talk to who have come back from working alongside Americans in Afghanistan and Iraq is that America has the problem that while it sends its troops out for peacekeeping, they have only really been trained to fight a total war scenario and consequently struggle.

Mate of mine sent me this link. Some sad and graphic images on here.

To suofftopicrize, it depicted Isreali children signing bombs along with what one would assume is meant to be Palestinian children dead from Isreali attacks.
