...do you think? I have always been interested in cartography (maps) since I was about 10 or so. Now I am 19 and still interested in it, what I am talking about is the maps of Earth. What makes cartography most interesting for me is the fact that there are coastal areas making all kind of unique shapes of land. This doesn't mean I am only interested in coastal areas, mountain ranges, rivers, canyons interest me as well.
However, when I look at the moon, it's not quite the same. There are no oceans to shape the landforms which makes observing the Moon not as fun as looking at Earth (same goes along with Mars) though I do see marias and craters on the Moon.
Is anyone the same? I am not saying the moon is uninteresting, I am saying the Earth has the most best and interesting physical features to observe, at least for me.
Isn't cartography also done on the Moon or Mars? Is it even possible for gas giants?
