itunes ask to activate my iphone?

i got a iphone of ebay, then i got a att sim card, so i could uses itune to take the usb symbol of the phone and use it.
but now it just says activate or regester the phone and wont take the usb symbol off.
i need to jailbreak it.
anyone know how to do this step by step please
