My truck overheated as I was driving away from my house, my sister happened to be driving behind me and told me there was something leaking as I was driving and it was enough that it was misting her car. I pulled over and reliazed the temp gauge was on red. I looked at the canister that holds the antifreeze and it was completly full and not boiling. I left the hood open, engine off and waiting for it cool. After about 15 min I heard a noise and reliazed that the antifreeze canister was empting. I filled the canister back up with a jug of water and drove the 1/2 mile back to my house after the engine had cooled. By the time I got home the truck was overheated again and the water I had just put in was still in there. What could it be? There is obviosly a leak somewhere cause the engine is wet. Could this be a thermostat?
I just replaced the fan last week.

check radiator hoses one may have burst. next check water pump and belts. if no luck fill with water and look for leaks. put radiator cap on and start engine and watch for water coming out some place. The canister would not empty as long as system was pressurized. When cooling it would create a vacuum and suck the water out of the container. Be sure to check heater hoses they sometimes burst. if cant find leak tow to garage and let them try to find it but you definitely have a leak or clogged radiator and blowing water out overflow tube.
