i have a 1990 jeep cherokee larado. 6 cyl. it seemed like it got harder to start. now, i try to start it, it trys to start for a few seconds, and dies out. what could be wrong? there's some fuel getting to the fuel rail. when i turn the key, i cant hear the fuel pump go on anymore..........

It's been trying to tell you it needed a tune up ever since it started getting hard to start. Sounds like your fuel pump went bad. Any mechanic can test the pressure of the fuel at the rail and verify if it is the fuel pump. You would also do good to replace the fuel filter. These newer fuel-injected engines won't take the abuse and negligence that the older carburetted engines did.

Your Jeep need new fuel pump.
Or need new fuel filter.
Or injectors need cleaning.
First get a bottle of fuel system cleaner and add to fuel tank when you fill up fuel tank and thake a long distance trip to burn out all the scumb. You need to do that 2 times a year at least and once a month is even better.
