Just bought a TV with Freeview-it doesn't work-have tried plugging into

ariel socket,have tried booster ariel? Both to no avail.The TV ariel cable (that runs from thne roof)has a funny connection on it,with a single prong sticking out?What should I do?Should I be looking for some sort of adaptor?
