Karate is more grounded, no silly jumping spinning high kick, and most karate use both feet and hand and even knees, elbows, etc if it a good style. but tyr both and find out which YOU want to do
I would suggest TKD only if you go to a reputable ITF school. Go and watch an advanced class. If you see little kids with black belts that can't do anything, walk out and find a new school. Don't do WTF because it's more competition and sport based, rather than traditional.
Karate is also a very respectable martial art, but it demands more balance and flexibility.
personaly i think tae kwon do is better because it uses your feet. if you like using you hands more then your feet pick karate. if you like using your feet do tae kwan do

Try them both and see which one you enjoy and get the most satisfaction from.
I did Karate in the main for many years but I tried tae-kwondo because I liked using my legs and wanted to use them more. Then I found because I was well drilled and karate trained I benefited from being much quicker with my hands than all of the other competitors so I excelled in Tae-kwondo. The Tae-kwondo training made my legs even better, stronger faster and helped my Karate at the same time. As a bonus I thoroughly enjoyed both training regimes.
So to repeat my advice is try them both and you may hate one and love the other but either way TRY them both you might love them both.
