Karate or Taekwondo????

the simple answer for what the difference between Karate and Tae Kwon Do is is that karate is a Japanese martial art that focuses primarily on hand techniques and does very little kicking compared to other arts. it also has a stronger focus on the empty hand style so weapons traditionally are not emphasized.

Tae Kwon Do is a Korean martial art. it focuses on the feet first with kicking and hand techniques second. the logic behind that is that the legs are longer and more powerful than the hands so make the opponent worry about 4 limbs instead of 2.

the people who say that Tae Kwon Do is not practical have only been exposed to sport style. which, like anything for points is more about flash and speed. however traditional tae kwon do is very ground based and incredible brutal. the majority of moves would be illegal in a sport match but would end any street fight in seconds.

Tae Kwon do is also a constantly evolving art. and anyone who thinks that there is a best martial art is foolish and missing the philosophy or budo as it is in japan. there is no best art. there are only those who train harder and master their own art. then when you use your technique it is who is the best fighter.

my friend does tae kwon do and he gets really bored of it because all he does is kicks
i do HAPKIDO, great martial arts, i enjoy it
its mix of taekwondo, judo etc.
we also do cartwheels and those fancy aesthetic kicks like butterfly kick aka wushu butterfly

well karate is a okinawan martial art. and karate has really no weapons. and u wuld most likely not need taekwondo in a real life situation. in a real fight karate wuld be better. taekwon do is more of a sport than a self defense martial art

Taekwondo - flashy kicks, not really useful in real life fights.

Well, Taekwondo is a Korean Martial whereas Karate is a Japanese Martial Arts. These way of fighting looks the same, however there's difference. Since I took Mixed Martial Arts, I don't know much about them. However, what do you think is good for you Korean or Japanese martial arts? All martial arts are different, but it all helped to defend yourself.

Don't listen to this two above me. Taekwondo is an amazing martial arts, it's not an martial sport cuz you think they are. One of my friend took Taekwondo and he's good at it. He defend all my hits. Martial Arts is a sport and also helpful for your health because you exercize and defense to protect yourself.

And for the guys next above. Karate can be amazing. You didn't know aobut theme cuz you didn't take. If you see ppl in Tournament fighting. there's so great. Kata fight, Sparring and etc.

I agree with the gentleman above me who states that they are all great.

I guess I have to say this once again:
No one martial art is better than another. It is more about using what you learn. They are all like peanut butter and jelly-they blend well with the right person.

Those two martial arts are good base studies that improve a great deal of persons abilities. They both will get you in shape and improve your mentality.
The fact is, once you are involved in one you will see that I am right.
I personally study Ninjitsu and to me there is nothing like it.
Here is a video of first a kung fu master and then a taekwondo master. I really enjoyed watching the second guy, though they are both great martial artists.
