i have just installed a new 1gb ram stick into my acer aspire 5315 laptop. i removed the adaptor and carefully installed the new stick. when i came to turn it back on it wouldnt power up at all like there was no power getting to the laptop! then i put the battery in and it booted fine... to rule out the adaptor i tried it in my friends laptop and it worked fine! as soon as i took it out of my friends laptop and put it back into mine it worked and hasnt done it since. could this be due to trapped power in the laptop or something more serious?
i never use the battery only ever run off AC

It was an ACER that made me write this note.

RAM for laptops
===========
Its best, for laptops, to remove your existing ram stick and take it to the store and buy new ram rated exactly at the same speed. Buying new ram that is backward compatible is not advisable, as in some laptops the power supply can be stretched and the ram not work efficiently at a lower speed than it is rated at.

So if you can, buy ram at the same speed as the laptop specification..

eg have 1 x 512 pc3200 RAM

recommend to buy 2 x 1 gig pc3200 sticks.

Also in laptops disconnect the battery before removing the ram.
