laws re: part-time employement and holidays, can i take them if not paid?? is there

notice to give...? someone i work with part time was refused vacation, told they need to be there a year (part time) then they can have 2 weeks off (without pay) just looking for info re: this cause it sounds wrong. If company isn't paying for holidays can u just not give enough notice and take the time off??? Please help tks
